Villanova Basketball: Breaking down the 2019 recruiting class
Eric Dixon – Abington, PA
PF | 6-foot-7 | 250 lbs | No. 67 overall
Well-known as a potential small-ball big, Eric Dixon is an extremely interesting prospect. Although the lowest-rated player joining the Villanova program this offseason, he is ranked in the top-75 and boasts a unique combination of a physically-built frame and a lengthy wingspan. His physical tools are obvious but his versatile game is what makes him such a highly-touted player. Due to his strong frame, Dixon can play in the paint with the best of them but also boasts the ability to function in a perimeter-centric role.
With these two taken together, he projects as one of the most difficult freshmen to gameplan for in the country. On the defensive end, he can hold his own in the paint while also rebounding at a high rate. Then, he spaces the floor so incredibly well on the offensive end with a propensity for making mismatches pay. This allows him to be one of the more unique overall players in the class and I am fascinated to see his impact for Villanova throughout his career.
Dixon can play positions 3-through-5 when on the court and this versatility should allow him to see immediate playing time with the program. He will likely come off of the bench during his first season but he could find time in many different roles. Versatility is one of the most important attributes in the modern game and Dixon fits that bill.
