NBA teams should not overthink this: Zion Williamson is the No. 1 overall pick in the Draft. He is that special. Unlike any other player in this draft class, Williamson is the player that absolutely needs to built around. With his insane athleticism and two-way potential, he brings a more unique skillset than just about anyone currently in the league (except for a few names) and has all of the makings of an NBA superstar very soon.

While I completely understand the concept of drafting for “fit”, that needs to overlooked in the case of Williamson. New Orleans is getting a future star. In addition to easily being the most talented player in the draft class, it is also very obvious that he is the most marketable as well. Williamson made headlines throughout this past college basketball season and his personality shows in his energetic play on the court. To put it simply, Zion Williamson made fans like Duke, and that is not always easy.

Additionally, every major draft outlet agrees that Williamson is the top prospect in the class and it would be a mistake to think otherwise. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20 and he could turn out to struggle but Williamson is far from “just hype”. After entering this season picked as possibly the third option on his own team, Williamson turned in one of the best collegiate seasons in recent memory en route to securing several awards.

So, to summarize this player profile, I will give you a quick preview of what is to come: “With the first pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the New Orleans Pelicans select Zion Williamson from Duke University.”  -NBA Commissioner Adam Silver on June 20th, 2019.
