Steven Crowl – Saint Paul, MN

C | 6-foot-10 | 210 lbs | No. 143 by 247Sports

Although not ranked by all recruiting services, Steven Crowl has received glowing reviews from a number of sites. In the most recent Top247 update, Crowl landed the No. 143 overall spot as a three-star recruit. This makes him one of the better prospects at the center position and he could be a valuable addition to Wisconsin’s future frontcourt. Crowl is widely regarded as a future high-major talent and it feels as though the Badgers are in a great position to potentially land his commitment. He brings plenty of size to the center spot at 6-foot-10 but there is room for him to add muscle to his frame.

With regards to his playing style on the court, Crowl has a variety of moves around the basket and runs the floor quite well. He has also shown the ability to step out and occasionally knock down the open jumper. He is also really skilled with the ball in his hands as he can take opponents off the dribble or find the open man out of the post. On the defensive end of the floor, he uses his size to alter shots at the rim but needs to add more weight before taking the next step. Adding muscle will be key.

Minnesota, Iowa, and Colorado are among the other players in this recruitment but the Badgers look to be the favorite. Considering Crowl’s playing style and Wisconsin’s need for a big man in this class, this could be a perfect match. This would be a superb fourth piece in Wisconsin’s 2020 class as Crowl would fill a positional need and allow the coaching staff to seek out the best player available either on the recruiting trail or in the transfer market in the coming months.

It is important to mention, though, that Crowl is planning to take his visits this fall and therefore a potential commitment is still months away. Wisconsin looks to be in a strong position in this recruiting battle but it is far from a lock.

That concludes this look at Wisconsin’s 2020 recruiting commits and targets. This has the makings of a great class for head coach Greg Gard and it will be interesting to see how the coaching staff finishes over the next few months. Will they land two more prospects or save a scholarship or two for the transfer market. We will soon find out.
