Michigan State Basketball: Analyzing top potential 2020 recruiting targets
Jaemyn Brakefield – Huntington, WV
PF | 6-foot-8 | 210 lbs | No. 33 overall
Jaemyn Brakefield is currently one of the hottest names in the 2020 recruiting class. He has been garnering a ton of attention now that the grassroots season is complete. Several top-tier programs have jumped into this recruitment in the last few weeks and he is also expected to cut his list in the near future as well. In addition to Michigan State, the talented power forward is receiving plenty of contact from Duke, Memphis, Ole Miss, Indiana, Michigan, and Louisville (among others). That is clearly an elite group of programs and it will be interesting to see where he eventually commits.
Over the last few months, Brakefield competed alongside several other top prospects as a member of the Phenom University (WI) team on the EYBL circuit. Even though he was not the top option (Jalen Johnson and Patrick Baldwin were on the team), Brakefield impacted each game with his play. Across 17 total contests, the 6-foot-8 versatile forward averaged 15.9 points (.565/.312/.763), 6.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. He is a strong three-level performer with an improving set of skills.
Brake field’s versatility is what makes him such a tantalizing recruit. With his size and playing style, he can fit on just about any roster in any number of roles. He can play alongside just about anyone and seems to be a budding NBA Draft prospect for the future. There does not seem to be a clear favorite in this recruiting battle and we will surely figure out more once his full visit schedule is announced.
