Texas Tech Basketball: Why Red Raiders will be better than Kansas in 2019-20
3. Freshmen
The Jayhawks did land a big(ish)-name freshman towards the end of the recruiting period when Jalen Wilson committed to the Jayhawks. Wilson should make somewhat of an impact as a freshman, but given the fact that he is a late entrant into the Jayhawks lineup, there is some reason for concern.
Meanwhile, the Red Raiders have their top-ranked recruiting class in school history, a class that should make both an immediate and long-term impact.
Leading the recruiting class is Jahmius Ramsey. A high-ranked four-star recruit, Ramsey should be an immediate starter and future star for the Red Raiders. It’ll be hard for anyone to follow-up Jarrett Culver’s career, but I like Ramsey to be the next Culver.
Next to Ramsey is another four-star and top-100 recruit, Terrence Shannon. The highly-touted recruit out of IMG Academy will likely come off the bench this season, but has difference-maker written all over him and will be a valuable depth piece for the Red Raiders.
Finally, the Red Raiders have a pair of three stars that could find the court at times this season, but will likely be developmental pieces for the future. Those players, Tyreek Smith and Clarence Nadolny, will be developed into future stars while the higher-ranked recruits make immediate impacts.
All eyes will be on Ramsey to put up big numbers this season, as they should. The Red Raiders 2019 Recruiting Class is second to only Texas in the Big 12, and the Red Raiders should be reaping the benefits of this class throughout all of next season and beyond.
