11) VCU – Siegel Center

VCU had long been a winner, particularly at home, prior to their Cinderella Final Four run in 2011 but, since then, the atmosphere and home-court advantage the Rams enjoy at the Siegel Center has taken on a life of its own.

As Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports puts it, a VCU game in that arena is “more life altering than a 10-day trip to Europe.”

Home to VCU since 1999, the 8,000-seat arena has helped turned the Rams into a mid-major juggernaut. They’ve only lost 39 regular season games in the building since it opened, giving them an average of fewer than two home losses per season. That gives them the 11th-best home court winning percentage in the country. The Rams have also held their own against ranked teams, too, going 4-3 when facing such an opponent at the Siegel Center.

All of that has helped VCU win six conference regular-season titles spanning from the CAA to the A-10 and earned 11 NCAA Tournament appearances over the last 20 years. And, it doesn’t look like their home-court advantage is going away anytime soon.

The Siegel Center has plans to expand to 10,000 seats, which is probably smart considering the program has sold out every home game since January 2011. That’s 134 straight contests for those of you counting at home.
