Center

Minutes Breakdown: Udoka Azubuike (30), David McCormack (10)

Besides Dotson and De Souza returning, the other big news that the Jayhawks received was senior center Udoka Azubuike returning for one more year in Lawrence.

Azubuike was the top player on the floor when healthy for Kansas last season, but he missed most of the season with an injury. Azubuike is back and fully healthy and is perhaps the best returning center in the country, as well as the best returning player in the Big 12.

Behind Azubuike is David McCormack, a former McDonald’s All-American that played big minutes in spite of Azubuike’s injury last season. McCormack didn’t play amazing, but he has the skills on defense as well as the potential to produce offensively to deserve to return to playing some minutes in his sophomore season.

Easing Azubuike back in will be big, so McCormack should see bigger minutes in non-conference play. Azubuike is the center of the team both figuratively and literally, so the Jayhawks will not fret in giving him every opportunity to carry the team in his final college season.

The Jayhawks are easily one of the most talented teams in the country on paper and their minute’s breakdown shows just that. Getting everyone in the game might be a challenge for Self, but if the Jayhawks are able to get the maximum production from their top players, the National Championship could run through Lawrence this season.
