Duke Basketball: Impact of commitment from Henry Coleman
What’s next for the Blue Devils?
With Coleman’s commitment, Duke holds the No. 2 overall recruiting class in the country. Surprising? I thought not. The Blue Devils are easily one of the best recruiting programs in the nation and they consistently snag one of the top groups in the nation. Coach K has already secured four major commitments from this class. Coleman might be the lowest-rated but he should make an immediate impact due to his size and skill set.
Coleman does not need the ball in his hands to succeed. He can be a big-time rebounder and strong defender with some scoring ability when necessary. His athleticism also allows him to be successful on the wing as well. This allows him to be a potentially perfect fit alongside more ball-dominant commits. All three of Duke’s other early commits are at their best with the ball in their hands.
Jalen Johnson (No. 6) is the crown jewel of this group while Jeremy Roach (No. 20) is a top-tier playmaker and DJ Steward (No. 26) should be a high-level scorer right away. Coleman should mesh nicely with them as a highly-rated player capable of filling multiple roles. Duke needed a frontcourt commit and Coleman fits the bill.
Duke is not quite done yet with this recruiting class, either. They have a few other open offers out and it will be interesting to see who they end up landing. Big man Mark Williams (No. 29) and small forward Ziaire Willaims (No. 5) are likely at the top of their priority list right now.
Henry Coleman is a big-time addition for Duke basketball even if he is not the most highly-rated. He is still a top 50 player and it seems likely that he will fill a major role in the frontcourt right away for the program. Coleman might not be a star but his impact will be legitimate. He should fit well with the rest of Duke’s 2020 class.
