NCAA Basketball: Most overrated, underrated teams in 2019-20 preseason AP poll
By Brian Rauf
Underrated: Florida State
So Gonzaga loses their four best players and is ranked in the top 10, but Florida State loses their two best and isn’t ranked at all? Why is that?
Terance Mann and Mfiondu Kabengele were great for the Seminoles and are now both on the Los Angeles Clippers, but Trent Forrest and MJ Walker are also back, combining to give FSU one of the best all-around backcourts in the country. Five-star freshman Patrick Williams is joining the fold and is a projected first-round pick, and their bench will be as deep and tall as always.
Florida State has won at least 23 games each of the last three seasons based on their defensive prowess and, given the mass amount of returners, that strength isn’t going away this year. And, while Kabengele and Mann were their two leading scorers, Williams and Ole Miss transfer Dominik Olejniczak should replace most of that production.
The Seminoles are far from the only snub in the preseason AP top 25 rankings, yet they’re the most glaring omission.
Those rankings will obviously change a lot once games are actually played, but look for Maryland, Gonzaga, and Saint Mary’s to fall down the rankings once that happens while Memphis, VCU, and Florida State rise.
