2. James Wiseman

It’s hard to rank freshman among returners but James Wiseman may be the exception in the AAC this season. The number one recruit in the country is going to be a force in the conference this year and is the number one player on a lot of people’s 2020 NBA Draft Boards.

Wiseman was a notable absence for Memphis in their summer trip to the Bahamas and missed their most recent exhibition game. Wiseman has been dealing with an ankle injury and sat out of the most recent exhibition for precautionary reasons according to Penny Hardaway.

The 7-footer chose to stay home and play his college ball at Memphis under Hardaway rather than the likes of Kentucky or Kansas. Wiseman is an elite shot-blocker with his size but his ability to knock down outside shots as well as run the floor has made him a matchup nightmare. Wiseman is must-watch tv and will one of the most exciting players in the country on n intriguing Memphis team.

1. Jarron Cumberland

No surprises at number one, the Athletic Conference Player of the Year Jarron Cumberland is back for his senior year looking to lead the Bearcats to another AAC Tournament Championship. Cumberland is the preseason AAC Player of the Year again this season as voted on by the coaches and deservedly so.

Cumberland averaged 18 points, three rebounds and four assists last year. He has a nice jump shot and can get to the rim at ease. Cumberland missed a lot of the summer dealing with a lower leg injury and was absent from Bearcat Madness this fall. He’s expected to be ready for the start of the season.

If Jarron Cumberland is healthy all year he’s a real candidate to be an All American. He’s got a lot of talent around him this season that should help take some of the attention away from him. He’ll have to replicate his success from last year for the Bearcats to have a good season, they’re going to need him.
