Duke Basketball: Why Blue Devils could go undefeated in 2019-20 ACC play
January Opponents
1/8 @ Georgia Tech
Duke will travel to Atlanta on January 8th where they will face off with Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech is currently 7-7 and 2-2 against ACC opponents. The Yellow Jackets have struggled in a major way so far this season and don’t have a win against a ranked opponent despite their two chances.
According to ESPN’s BPI Duke has an 89.1% chance to win this game.
1/11 vs. Wake Forest
Wake Forest is currently 8-5 with a record of 1-2 against ACC opponents. The Demon Deacons haven’t beaten Duke in Cameron Indoor since January 11th, 1997. For this reason and many others, it is highly unlikely that Wake Forest pulls off the upset exactly 23 years later.
According to ESPN’s BPI Duke has a 96.5% chance to win this game.
1/14 @ Clemson
Clemson is currently 7-7 this season and they have a record of 1-3 against ACC opponents. Clemson has played two ranked opponents, they lost both games by a combined 23 points. The Tigers also have losses to Virginia Tech, Minnesota, South Carolina, Yale and Miami.
According to ESPN’s BPI Duke has an 86.3% chance to win this game.
1/18 vs. Louisville
Louisville is currently 11-3 and 2-1 against ACC opponents. This game will be one of Duke’s two toughest tests against ACC opponents. Louisville is a very good team and like Duke, they play fast-paced.
The Cardinals score an average of 75.4 points per game, with 21 of those 75.4 coming from the ACC’s leading scorer, Jordan Nwora. When the two play Louisville will likely be outside the top-10 because of a loss this past week to Florida State by 13, but that shouldn’t take anything away from the Cardinals.
According to ESPN’s BPI Duke has an 84.4% chance to win this game.
1/21 vs. Miami
Miami is currently 9-4 and 1-2 against ACC opponents. On January 4th, Duke beat Miami by 33 points IN Miami. There is absolutely no reason this game should be close when the two match up in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
According to ESPN’s BPI Duke has a 95.9% chance to win this game.
1/28 vs. Pitt
Pitt is currently 10-4 and holds a record of 1-2 against ACC opponents. The Panthers have played one opponent so far who was ranked at the time they played, Louisville who they lost to by 18. Pitt also has a loss to Nicholls State who is ranked 162nd in the NET Rankings but beat Florida State in the first game of the year.
According to ESPN’s BPI Duke has a 96.0% chance to win this game.
