3. Houston Cougars (Prior Ranking: 3)

Houston is the only team that’s in the same spot they were in two weeks ago. 2-1 in conference play with a win against Temple and UCF and a close defeat on the road against Tulsa.

Houston is a balanced team with a lot of talent, and outside of their game against Oregon, they’ve been in every game they’ve played down to the wire. 12-4 could be better.

Quentin Grimes has really struggled in conference play so far and that’s a little concerning. Houston needs him to be playing at a high level to have a lot of success this season. Back to back games with five or fewer points and just one made field goal in their loss to Tulsa.

Houston is another team without a lot of depth, and don’t really have a true big man with a lot of minutes under their belt. Despite that Houston are probably the team with the most size all around and it’s been a problem for some teams. There’s some experience on this team and a lot of guys capable of putting up big numbers.

Cougars are still in a good spot and are in the at large conversation still but need to step their game up. They’ll get SMU midweek and Wichita on the weekend on the road. We’ll see if Houston can rise to the challenge.
