NBA Draft 2020: Shakeup among frontcourt players in January mock draft
No. 10 Detroit Pistons – Tyrese Haliburton, 6’5″ 185lbs, PG, Iowa State
The Pistons need to find a point guard who they can build around for the future, they can find it in Haliburton with the tenth pick.
Derrick Rose has been a renaissance and an awesome story to follow this year for the Pistons, but he is not the answer in Detroit. What he could be is a wonderful mentor to Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton.
Haliburton offers great size as a point guard, he’s a tough defender, and he’s one of the best passers in the country right now. Averaging 7.4 assists per game is no joke, and Haliburton shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc on over six threes a game is a super impressive number. The Pistons could benefit greatly from having a facilitator like Haliburton on the court.
Detroit will have decisions to make: whether or not they should extend Andre Drummond, what do they do with Blake Griffin, and should they retain Rose through the deadline or trade him/buy him out instead. No matter what the answer to those are, adding Haliburton gives the Pistons a player they can build around for years to come.
