Mid-major Basketball power rankings: Rhode Island, New Mexico State make moves
20. Vermont Catamounts (18-6, 8-1 in America East)
Vermont now has an eight-game winning streak, most recently beating Maine at home. After what by his standards would be considered as a “rough stretch”, Anthony Lamb has been on a tear. He’s averaging 23 ppg in his last four games, including a season-high 33 points to beat Albany on the road.
The biggest game in the America East this season will be on February 20, when Vermont looks to avenge their only conference loss this season with a trip to Stony Brook. With just one game separating the teams, the winner will not only win the regular-season title but also host the conference tourney title game if they make it that far.
19. Duquesne Dukes (17-5, 7-3 in Atlantic 10)
With just one game separates teams 3-7 in the Atlantic 10 standings, meaning that the fight for the double-bye in the conference tournament will be fun to watch, as well as important. That’s why that bad loss by Duquense to UMass was so bad a week ago. But they made up for it in the last game, beating Saint Louis on the road, 82-68.
Marcus Weathers (26 points), continues to make a run at First-Team All-Conference, while Sincere Carry and Michael Hughes continues to consistently produce. The Dukes have a massive game this Saturday at home against Saint Bonaventure, with seeding implications down the road. Get this win and this team will have a real shot at finishing in the top-4.
