NCAA Tournament 2020: Selection Committee bracket preview takeaways
The ACC’s Reign might be over
Although the ACC might have three teams in the top-16, it is VERY odd to see the conference without a one seed considering they had two last season. Most years you would expect to see 4-5 ACC teams in the bracket preview, so seeing only three is a bit surprising, but that’s been on-brand for the ACC this season.
At the beginning of the year, there were four ACC teams in the top-11 and Florida State wasn’t even ranked yet so now to see only three teams in the top-16 is quite bizarre.
But the question is, how many teams will the ACC have in the tournament overall?
Right now it looks like the ACC will have between 4-8 teams make the NCAA Tournament. Duke, Louisville and Florida State are guaranteed to make it as they are 20-3, 21-3 and 20-3 respectively.
The other teams who could get in if they clean their act up and don’t lose too many games between now and Selection Sunday are Virginia, NC State, Notre Dame, Pitt and Syracuse.
The Cavaliers are 15-7, Wolfpack is 15-8, Fighting Irish are 14-8, Panthers are 15-9 and Orange are 14-9. This means that if they play their cards right and win a couple games over the course of the next month, they could very well find themselves in the NCAA Tournament.
Another team on the bubble is Virginia Tech who is currently 14-10, but they are a bit more of a long shot as they have to play Duke and Louisville between now and the ACC Tournament.
If the ACC only has four teams in the tournament that would be absolutely shocking considering they were a team that had seven teams in the tournament last year and nine the two years before that.
So with that being said, the fact that the three ACC teams in the early bracket preview could be the only ACC teams in the NCAA Tournament is absolutely shocking.
