SEC Basketball: Final 2019-20 power rankings for end of the season
By Dakota Cox
10. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee was one of the best teams in all of college basketball last year. They were so talented that many thought that their head coach was going to be poached. Well, fans might want to watch highlights from last season instead of this one. To be fair, that’s usually what happens when you lose two of the best players in the conference.
Without Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield, you know it was going to be tough. They also lost Jordan Boone from that squad, making matters worse. There was zero doubt that this was supposed to be a rebuilding year.
With that in mind, there was still a lot of leadership from older players this year. However, numbers dwindled even more without Lamonte Turner, who went down with injuries early in the year. He won’t be returning, so there needs to be a plan for how to build next year without him as well.
What really hurt the Vols was their inability to score on offense. They had a quality defense, but they simply couldn’t get anywhere with the ball in their hand. Their turnovers and missed shots kept them from winning too many games. We’ll see how Barnes plans to fix those problems next year.
