Turner has had a successful career

Turner just finished his 10th season as the head coach of the Anteaters, and to say his run has been a successful one would be a bit of an understatement. His team had their eyes locked on a third NCAA Tournament appearance overall and a second straight as they would have entered the Big West tournament as the No. 1 seed and the clear team to beat. This all coming on the heels of a 31-6 record last season and a first-round upset of Kansas State in the NCAA Tournament.

Turner’s teams also had four other post-season appearances in the last 10 years, which means that since the 2012-13 season, UC-Irvine has failed to play in March just once, in 2017-18. Turner struggled in his first two seasons with the school, finishing below .500 both years, but has dominated the Big West since then. Only once has UC-Irvine finished lower than fourth in the conference, in 2012-13, and in the seven seasons since, the Anteaters have five regular-season conference titles under their belt and two other second-place finishes.

Since 2012, UC-Irvine has won at least 21 games in seven of Turner’s eight seasons, he has turned the Anteaters into the league’s premier program, from a team that had just two trips to the Big West tournament finals since becoming a Division I program in 1991.
