NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing Kerwin Walton’s final six
Georgetown Hoyas
Georgetown is a difficult program to gauge at this moment. While head coach Patrick Ewing has experienced his fair share of successes on the recruiting trail since taking over, there have also been plenty of disappointments. Several players elected to transfer mid-season during this past year and the team wound up out the NCAA Tournament conversation for the fifth consecutive season.VAnderbl
As it stands, Georgetown’s 2020 recruiting class already features three commits and Walton would fill a much-needed hole on the perimeter. Power forward Jamari Sibley (No. 92) and Tyler Beard (No. 162) headline this class while a pair of sub-300 prospects are also committed. The quartet of prospects is ranked at No. 35 in the nation among team classes.
Coach Ewing offered Walton a scholarship in early January of this year and has been aggressively pursuing him since. Adding a highly-touting scoring wing to the core of Sibley/Beard would be an excellent fit to hopefully propel the Hoyas up the Big East rankings in the near future.
It is important to mention, though, that Georgetown is the only school that Walton has not visited. Considering the current concerns regarding the spread of the coronavirus, it also seems unlikely that the talented wing will take a trip to the nation’s capital prior to making his decision. This might not end up being a big deal but it should be noted.
