UCLA Bruins

Speaking of defense, that’s UCLA head coach Mick Cronin’s specialty. After a rocky start with the Bruins this season, the team ended up taking second place in the Pac-12 in a near-miraculous rebound. And with five-star point guard Dashien Nix joining the team, they should be in a position to make the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and bring the program back to a super-high level.

And that’s the problem in this scenario. The recruiting is picking up this offseason, with a number of top-50 prospects interested again in UCLA. They already have one in class of 2021 commit Will McClendon, who’ll fight for playing time regarding who’s there. With Muhammad having to sit out a year regardless, it’s a big risk to personally hope that a five-star likely starter doesn’t join that class as well. This could end up being the same situation as Ohio State.

West Virginia Mountaineers

WVU also has a 2021 commit in Seth Wilson, who’s more of a point guard. The Mountaineers have a desperate need for a scoring guard, with not one perimeter this past season reaching double figures. Barring an unforeseen transfer/top-tier recruit coming in, Muhammad would only have to compete with Sean McNeil for playing time at the shooting guard position in 2021-22.

It makes perfect sense why West Virginia would go after Muhammad, thanks to his defensive reputation. But is this the best for the player to go to Morgantown? The offense is the complete opposite of say an Alabama/Auburn, with the Mountaineers known more for grinding out each possession rather than free-flowing.

This list is a mixture of what Muhammad excels at currently, versus what he wants to be in terms of having an all-around game with an improved offense. It’ll be an interesting decision but right now, I think Seton Hall and Auburn have good shots to land the Ohio State transfer. But don’t count out any of these individual recruiters.
