6. Tyrell Terry – Stanford Cardinal

Terry had a very underrated freshman campaign for Stanford, producing 14.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 3.2 apg, all ranking second on the team. The Pac-12 All-Freshmen did everything well, including shooting (41% from three-point range on 152 attempts), free throw shooting (89%), rebounding, passing and can defend as well, knabbing 42 steals this season.

The former top-50 recruit had NBA potential but his all-around game and lack of any clear weakness make him one of the top underclassmen guards that could enter the draft. The mock big boards and drafts have him as a 1st-round potential pick, top-40 in the worst case. That creates a dilemma for Terry, who would be on a different kind of team next season at Stanford.

The Cardinal brings back star forward Oscar Da Silva for his senior season, while also just recently landing five-star wing Ziaire Williams. And top-tier international recruit point guard Isa Silva is likely to pick Stanford in the coming days. Terry would still be a featured player in the rotation but his ability to improve on his overall scoring may be limited in 2020-21.

For most of the players on this list, they’re deciding between going pro early on coming back to solid teams next season, with a 1st round grade far from a guarantee. But with Terry already having a first-round grade, does he risk hurting himself next year or stay in and take advantage of a weak freshman guard class in this year’s draft? He may not have a choice but to stay in and go off to the NBA early if he gets a top-30 promise.
