Marquette Golden Eagles

Marquette was very involved in the transfer market this offseason while reaching out to a wide variety of guards across the country. In the end, though, this strategy certainly paid off with a pair of big-time backcourt additions that will surely help the program in the future as both have multiple years of eligibility remaining. Considering the Golden Eagles are losing Markus Howard and Sacar Anim this offseason, they certainly have some firepower to replace.

The first of these transfers to commit was D.J. Carton. A highly-rated recruit out of high school, the 6-foot-2 Carton averaged 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game as a true freshman for Ohio State during this past season. He left the team after 20 games due to mental health and elected to transfer after the season. Carton has three years of eligibility left and could push for a waiver.

Additionally, head coach Steve Wojciechowski also landed Gardner-Webb transfer Jose Perez. As a sophomore last season, Perez averaged 15.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game across 22 contests. While this past season was rather inefficient (.340/.250/.743), he is a capable all-around guard with two seasons of eligibility left.

It is also worth mentioning that Marquette is yet to lose a player to transfer this offseason, which is a bonus. This has quite simply been a strong offseason so far for the Golden Eagles.
