Maryland Terrapins

I wouldn’t normally consider an inter-conference transfer move but Nojel Eastern going from Purdue to Michigan makes this paring a potential possibility. Unlike the Hoosiers, Maryland could use another frontcourt piece, having next to nothing before picking up Galin Smith. That leaves him and Chol Marial at the center position, with Donta Scott picking up the minutes at power forward.

If Boston College transfer forward Jairus Hamilton does have to sit out next season, Smith would be an ideal one-year plugin as the combo forward for Maryland. He can play the 3 to sub in for one of the Terrapins guards, while also playing some undersized four. Depth is still an issue for Maryland next season and adding a two-year Big Ten starter this late in the game would do wonders.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

With the team’s two leading scorers (TJ Gibbs and John Mooney) graduated and Santa Clara transfer Trey Wertz having to sit out next season, Notre Dame is hoping badly that the returning core can take a major step and compete for an NCAA Tournament bid next season.

But there’s a big hole at the wing position and with the ACC’s leading rebounder not around anymore, the Irish could use a frontcourt piece more than another perimeter asset. Smith would hurt their three-point shooting abilities somewhat but with Prentiss Hubb and Dane Goodwin back, that shouldn’t bee too much of a problem. He’ll be needed to help out with rebounding and defending the bigger wings in the league.
