Expectations for Amari Davis in 2020-21

It is going to be hard to pinpoint what a reasonable expectation for Green Bay is this year, considering they fired their coach so late into the cycle. Normally the new coach would still have time to go find his own players and build his system around his own players. The Covid19 Pandemic has made things that much harder for Coach Ryan and for all mid majors. One thing that can be expected is the Phoenix are going to be well experienced and do have a star in Davis to build around. Many other first year coaches would love to have a player the caliber of Davis or the experience Green Bay has coming back.

The sophomore guard enters the year as one of the favorites for the conference player of the year. The biggest competition comes from one of the newcomers to the conference. AJ Bramah from Robert Morris will provide the stiffest competition for Davis as his quest for the Conference Player of the Year. As mentioned, Davis has a chance to put up some gaudy numbers this year, with the keys to the offense he is going to have free reign of the shots in the offense. Coach Ryan is likely to utilize some form of the motion offense which is going to assist getting Davis the ball in open spots on the floor. If he takes his game to the next level Green Bay has a chance to be very good.

The sophomore guard is the star and likely the best player in the Horizon League. The Phoenix do have a lot returning from last years team that finished third in the Horizon league. Outside of Davis the Phoenix have a good core of players returning who are going to help the guard out at all levels. Illinois State transfer Josh Jefferson is going to bring some shooting along with senior guard PJ Pipes. Pipes is going to be another player relied on for his shooting and experience.
