Rhode Island Basketball newcomer – Ishmael Leggett

Guard | 6-foot-2 | 185 lbs. | 3-Star-Recruit, Washington, DC

In September, Ishmael Leggett verbally committed to the University of Rhode Island. Leggett also claimed offers from several other Atlantic-10 rivals, Richmond, Saint Joe’s, La Salle, and George Washington. Leggett attended St. John’s College High in Washington, D.C.  He was recruited by Coach Cox and Senior Guard Jeff Dowtin who both attended St. John’s College High.

The 6-foot-2 guard Leggett made his first official visit to the University of Rhode Island in June. Last summer, Leggett participated in the Nike EYBL circuit with Team Durant, reaching the season-ending Peach Jam.

Last season, Leggett led St. John’s College High to the final four and was able to take a lot of the young players under his wing as a leader on and off the court. The team finished with a 23-7 record. He averaged 12 points per game in his career with St. John’s College High per Maxpreps.com.

Leggett is rated a three-star recruit by both Rivals.com and 247sports.com.  He is currently ranked the 39th best shooting guard per Rivals.

Leggett will be a great addition to this squad and a solid replacement for Jeff Dowtin. He certainly wasn’t the last finisher guard URI will recruit this offseason as Coach Cox is continuing to bolster up his rotation.
