NCAA Basketball: Ranking 2021 4-Star G Jaden Akins top 6 programs
By Ian Mumm
3. Northwestern Wildcats
The Wildcats have been an aggressive recruiting team over the last decade, but the commitments have simply not followed. Northwestern has only managed 2 top-50 recruiting classes in the last 10 years, but early success in the 2021 class shows things are changing in Evanston. The early pledges of three top-175 guys have created one of the top classes in the program’s history, solidifying the roster in an attempt to land 5-star crown jewel Pat Baldwin Jr.
With one top-100 recruit already on board, adding Akins to the backcourt will only make things more enticing for Baldwin to join as well. The emergence of Boo Biue and signing of wing Casey Simmons gives this team a really nice starting place to support Pat Baldwin. Akins versatility handling the ball and creating his shots in the midrange and along the perimeter at a high rate of success, compliment Biue’s tendencies to attack and find shots on the interior of the defense.
Akins is going to garner a large priority within the offense and has the tools to make this team dangerous again. Providing a boost on both ends of the floor, he could have helped to turn the fortunes on the team’s 10 single-digit losses in 2019. As an efficient volume scorer, Akins would drastically begin to change the game-script and approach for the Wildcats to succeed in conference play.
