Pac-12 Basketball: Biggest question for each team entering 2020-21 season
USC – Will the transfers take some pressure off of Evan Mobley?
When you go 22-9, return just one starter and your top-3 returning scorers were a sophomore and two freshmen, as a coach you would have a lot of work to do. And that is exactly what USC head man Andy Enfield did, work.
First, he brought in the younger brother of one of those freshmen, Evan Mobley, who just happens to be 6’11 and 205lbs. as well as being the No.3 prospect in the entire country. As soon as Mobley steps on the floor, he is going to garner a lot of attention and rightly so. To help ease the expectations for Mobley, Enfield has brought in four transfers that he hopes can give opponents something else to look at other than Mobley.
Joshua Morgan is a 6’11 center who played at Long Beach State as a freshman scoring eight points and leading the team with six rebounds and 2.5 blocks on the defensive end and shooting 62% from the field. Adding to the length of the Trojans’ frontcourt is 6’9 power forward Chevez Goodwin who played his previous two seasons at Wofford where he too led his team in rebounding (6.3) and added 11.9 points per game.
An under-the-radar commitment for Enfield was 6’7 swingman Isaiah White, the native of Rancho Cucamonga led Utah Valley in scoring with 14.5 per game and, you guessed it, in rebounding, grabbing over eight per contest. Lone returning starter, guard Ethan Anderson also gets some help in the backcourt with the arrival of senior Tahj Eaddy who scored nine points per game for Santa Clara last season.
Mobley will get the attention but, the ability of these transfers to take the pressure off of him may be USC’s biggest key.
