NCAA Basketball: Alabama, LSU and Texas among contenders for Alex Fudge
Florida Gators
Sophomore wing Scottie Lewis is a near-consensus breakout national candidate for the upcoming season. If that happens, a potential hole opens up for Fudge at that position. But he’ll have to compete with top-100 freshman forward Samson Ruzhentsev, as well as Louisiana Tech transfer Anthony Duruji.
Fudge would be a nice piece for the Gators and with Florida State not involved, is the best in-state option for him. But the offensive fit may not be there and there is plenty of competition on the future roster beyond Lewis. Among all of the SEC contenders, Florida may not be at the top.
Georgia Bulldogs
Another SEC program looking to get on the board, the Bulldogs are hoping to find a way to establish themselves against the other conference competitors. That’ll be hard since the team’s pathway to the NCAA Tournament is much harder, including the upcoming season and beyond.
What Georgia does have to offer is plenty of playing time at the wing, with Stony Brook grad transfer Andrew Garcia only around for one year. Christian Brown still has plenty to prove and the Bulldogs will need plenty of offense once Fudge arrives. If having a large role as a freshman can be a big selling point, the Bulldogs may have a chance in this one.
