Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves have a lot of needs – they wouldn’t have been in position to receive the first overall pick in the draft if they didn’t. One of their biggest needs, however, comes at the power forward position.

The starting power forward spot was a revolving door for Minnesota this season. Robert Covington started there. Juancho Hernangomez started there. James Johnson started there. The list goes. Minnesota needs a long-term power forward to play alongside Karl-Anthony Towns.

They probably aren’t going to find that at the top of the draft. The best big man available is James Wiseman, but he’s definitively a center. Obi Toppin was great in college, but he’s a reach at the top spot. Same goes for Onyeka Okongwu, who is soaring up draft boards, but not that high.

Instead, Minnesota might look for a power forward at No. 17. Once again, Jalen Smith and Paul Reed could be in play here. Another option might be Patrick Williams, the former Florida State Seminole. He could go in the lottery, as he’s young with a promising three-point shot. If he falls to the Timberwolves, there’s some real developmental hope with him.

Minnesota also picks at No. 33. If they want a power forward there, Isaiah Stewart could be a good option. He was able to produce big numbers as a freshman at Washington and sported a true shooting percentage of .629.
