ACC Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2020-21 season
Georgia Tech had a fantastic 2019-20 season, finishing fifth in the ACC with an 11-9 conference record, and a 17-14 record overall. Compared to past seasons where they typically finished towards the bottom of the conference, the Yellow Jackets were rather pleased with their performance in 2019-20.
Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, they didn’t have the chance to compete in the ACC or NCAA Tournaments as they were both canceled. This likely would have been Georgia Tech’s first appearance in the big dance since 2010, but unfortunately, they didn’t get that opportunity.
The good news for Georgia Tech is that its 2020-21 team is very similar to that of its 2019-20 team. With four of their top-five scorers, three of their top-four rebounders, and all of their top-five assist getters returning for the Yellow Jackets, Georgia Tech has a decent chance to produce a similar season next year.
In addition to their high amount of important returning players, Georgia Tech also added three three-star recruits and two three-star transfers. That being said, we might be looking at a Georgia Tech team with the potential to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in over a decade.
Here is what Georgia Tech’s 2020-21 roster looks like:
- Saga Gigiberia, Freshman, Forward/Center
- Tristan Maxwell, Freshman, Guard
- Jordan Meka, Freshman, Forward
- Kyle Sturdivant, Sophomore, Guard
- Coleman Boyd, Sophomore, Guard
- Rodney Howard, Sophomore, Forward
- Niko Broadway, Sophomore, Guard
- Jehloni James, Sophomore, Forward
- Michael Devoe, Junior, Guard
- Khalid Moore, Junior, Forward
- Bubba Parham, Senior, Guard
- Jordan Usher, Senior, Guard/Forward
- Moses Wright, Senior, Forward
- Jose Alvarado, Senior, Guard
- Shaheed Medlock, Senior, Guard
- Malachi Rice, Senior, Guard
The Yellow Jackets are loaded with seniors for the 2020-21 season as they have six seniors making up a little more than a third of their roster as Georgia Tech has 16 players on its 2020-21 roster.
The Yellow Jackets could certainly finish higher than 11th in 2020-21, but entering the season, they are the 11th best team in the ACC.
