Pittsburgh & Georgia Tech take ‘not-so good’ losses

The Pittsburgh Panthers didn’t get the 2020-21 season off to a good start with an 80-70 loss to St. Francis (PA) on their own home floor. In a game where the Red Flash entered with a record of 0-29, they got their first win in school history over the Panthers to kick off the 2020-21 season. For Pittsburgh, look no further than 3-point shooting for where to start, at least.

As a team, the Panthers shot 6-of-24 from 3-point range. Justin Champagnie and Xavier Johnson shot a combined 0-for-9 from 3-point land in the loss. On the bright side, Au’diese Toney finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and three steals on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point land.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets took a loss as well, but they at least fought until the very end, literally. It took four overtimes before things finally tilted in favor of Georgia State on Wednesday night in a 123-120 victory over Georgia Tech. While Moses Wright finished with 31 points and 20 rebounds, the game was overshadowed by the lackluster all-around play of the Yellow Jackets’ backcourt.

Michael Devoe and Jose Alvarado combined for 13 of the Yellow Jackets’ 22 turnovers in the loss. The duo also shot a combined 14-of-50 from the field and 5-of-20 from 3-point range in the loss.

Alvarado still finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, and four rebounds and Devoe finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists, but when the result reads: “Loss”, other things are looked upon to fix the issues.
