NCAA Basketball: Takeaways from 2020 Jimmy V Classic participants
Baylor Bears – Best overall backcourt in the country
Dosunmu wasn’t the only star guard in the game that shot 6/18 from the field. That was Jared Butler’s stat line as well, finishing with 12 points. The difference between his and Dosunmu’s supporting cast was huge though, with fellow Bear starters Davion Mitchell and MaCio Teague reaching in double figures.
But there was another guard who also was in double-digits in Adam Flager. He’s the newcomer to the rotation, having sat out last season after transferring from Presbyterian. In just a few games this early season, the sophomore guard has already made a huge impact. He had 17 off the bench against Washington and then dropping a game-high 18 in the game against Illinois.
Flager has already proved to be a great replacement for Devante Bandoo as the 6th man on the team, being another elite guard that can play both ends of the court. Baylor can withstand foul trouble or an off game from any of their guards and still have plenty of production to win any game. And with UNLV transfer Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua also having a major early impact in the frontcourt as well, the Bears can claim the best 8-man rotation in all of NCAA Basketball.
That depth and star power will be tested this weekend in an epic 1 vs. 2 matchup with the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Flager and the rest of the roster will need to play their best games to win but right now, they’re playing some great basketball.
