Rutgers Scarlet Knights

The Scarlet Knights have become a rising power within the Big Ten over the last several seasons and are even bringing in national attention for their program’s successes. Head coach Steve Pikiell has worked hard over his first three seasons at the helm working to develop Rutgers into the monster it is now. Projecting out to 2022 however, appears to be a worrying task for the sustainability of the team’s success.

Currently led by highly productive guard Ron Harper Jr., the Scarlet Knights look to be significantly depleted entering 2022. Without notable replacements at this stage, the outlook for success in one of the toughest conferences in the nation does not look good.

Although sophomore wing Paul Mulcahy has shown flashes early this season towards taking the program’s mantle in a couple of seasons, the depth on the roster will be an issue and leaves tons of potential for Lloyd to come in and be ‘the guy.’

Without a star guard controlling the reigns in 2022, Rutgers is projected to be frontcourt heavy with Cliff Omoruyi and Mawot Mag. Lloyd still brings valued positional flexibility to the Scarlet Knights, but he also would be a huge addition to their backcourt strength. This team is in high need of a volume scorer and talented offensive weapon.

Lloyd has voiced his opinion that opportunity over location is his desire and won’t be turned off by the cross-country move to New Jersey. Rutgers could be one of his better opportunities to accomplish his immediate goals.
