NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 2022 4-star G Ramel Lloyd Jr. trims list to 8

The transition process for head coach Sean Miller from last season to this season was likely not going to be smooth, but it’s gone quite well for the Wildcats thus far. Losing three players in the most recent draft was not going to be an easy task to overcome, but Miller managed to reload the roster with an unconventional cast of recruits. The class has made an immediate impact on Arizona’s season and helped to replace the lost production from 2020.
Miller has notably already secured three top-100 guards in the 2021 class and appears to be having no problem replenishing the stable of talent within his program. With such a young roster, it appears this collection of talent is here to stay for several seasons and may prove to be a hinderance to Lloyd’s aspirations.
There is no doubt that the Wildcats system is fitting of his talents on both ends of the floor, but finding a firm grasp within the rotation as soon as he steps foot on campus may not be so simple here.
Wings Dalen Terry and Bennedict Mathurin have both played well to start the season and have plenty of eligibility left in their collegiate careers. The Wildcats are still in the running for 15+ guards in the top-100 of the 2022 class and could further complicate the path towards early minutes for Lloyd.
His rebounding and score rates could give him a good shot at playing time, but the continued recruitment of so many other studs doesn’t provide a clear picture of how easily he can fit into the vision he desires for the start of his collegiate career.
