Comfortably Push The Pace

This matchup will certainly be a battle of tempo. Wisconsin loves to operate at a snail’s pace, while the Tar Heels will take any opportunity to run the floor. It’s important for North Carolina to not be lured into playing the ideal style for the Badgers and boost their confidence in keeping this one close.

North Carolina should look to exploit that by taking their opportunities to push the ball and finding easy looks at the rim for their guards albeit with a caveat. Carolina’s backcourt, although improving, is still very young. They have been doing a good job of managing games and taking care of the basketball. However, they are prone to mistakes and that will only be heightened against the collective experience of this Badgers team.

Wisconsin does not produce a high number of steals, but they do pressure ball-handlers well and force mistakes in other ways. Pushing the tempo will net trips to the foul line and put Wisconsin’s veteran group literally on the defensive. Love, Davis, and the rest of the backcourt group need to be prepared to pull the ball out and run offensive sets if the Badgers can manage their transition defense well as to not pile on unforced errors.
