5. F Timmy Allen – Utah

2020-21 stats: 17.2 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.9 apg

The junior forward has been one of the best pure scorers on the entire west coast, averaging over 17 ppg in the past couple of seasons. Although he’s not much of a three-point shooter, Allen has a great mid-range game and plays even bigger than his 6’7 frame suggests. Can score inside and has post moves as well and with an improved perimeter, shot can become an unstoppable 20 ppg scorer.

The wing could return to Utah or transfer elsewhere in the Pac-12, or even Gonzaga in the WCC may be an option. It’ll be interesting to see if Allen takes a senior year but at the right spot could be a tremendous impact transfer.

4. F Jayden Gardner – East Carolina

2020-21 stats: 18.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 1.4 apg

One of the best players not many people have heard of in NCAA Basketball, Gardner is a versatile combo forward that has been able to score at an elite level since his freshman year. He’s averaged 18.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg in his career with the Pirates and has numerous games of 20 points and 10 rebounds, along with several 30+ point efforts.

Gardner hasn’t been surrounded by the greatest supporting cast at East Carolina but could be a nationally known superstar if he transfers to the right power conference program. Many have already been involved, including Louisville, Florida, and Virginia.

3. C Qudus Wahab – Georgetown

2020-21 stats: 12.7 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.6 bpg

The 6’11 big man had a breakout sophomore campaign once inserted into the starting lineup. Wahab had at least seven points in every game this season and fairly consistent on both ends of the court, including six straight double-digit scoring games at the end of the season.

The center decided to leave Patrick Ewing and the Hoyas and reportedly has a final six set of options, including Tennessee, Maryland, and VCU. One of them will land a very good talent with even more potential to tap in.

2. G Marcus Carr – Minnesota

2020-21 stats: 19.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.9 apg

At one point in the season, Carr was averaging nearly 25 ppg and seven assists, including several 30+ point efforts. Carr also had a career-high 41 points against Nebraska later in the season. The team struggled though, in part due to Carr’s poor shot selection and overall making.

Carr, when under control, can be a fantastic playmaker and distributor. Assuming he doesn’t go pro and plays for a different team, will have to be willing to have the ball in his hands a bit less and take fewer shots. If the right team can harness Carr’s talents, he’s good enough to take a “good” team into a national title contender.

1. F/C Tre Mitchell – UMass

2020-21 stats: 18.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2.2 apg

Even though he came in as a top-100 talent for a mid-major program, Mitchell still out-performed expectations in his two seasons with the Minutemen. He can score inside and out, has a tremendous post-game, and is a good and growing defender. At 6’9 and 240 pounds, the big man has already been a coveted player in the portal, with all power conference teams after him.

If you look at both these rankings and overall among those in the portal, there simply aren’t many available frontcourt players with an offensive game. Mitchell already has it as a sophomore and could be around for two more years. This is a future NBA player that will be a national star for whoever can win out on his recruitment.
