Small Forward: Chet Holmgren

Unicron. If you haven’t seen any of his highlights you must not be on Twitter or really any other form of social media. Long frail-bodied kid with guard-like skills, grabbed the attention of everyone in the basketball community. Now I might be going out on a limb here having the seven-footer playing the 3 but it’s entirely in play.

Holmgren earned a 1.000 rating by 247sports and was the #1 player in the class. . As a senior at Minnehaha Academy in Minnesota, Holmgren averaged 20.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 4.7 blocks, while shooting 80% from the field. Minnehaha went on to win the Class 3A state championship.

The seven-footer has legit three-point range and the ability to create his own shot off the dribble. His quickness and agility are tremendous and he’s got great anticipation and reaction as a shot-blocker. His quick feet will allow him to defend outside on the perimeter. And offensively it’s hard to say whos going to slow him down.

Either way, Holmgren is going to be in the starting lineup. It is just a matter of how coach Few wants to approach it. How big does he want to go? Playing three guys above 6’10 in the starting five is a little unorthodox but with Holmgren’s skillset, the Bulldogs will be able to make it work.
