Power Forward: Anton Watson

The 6’8 forward had a highly productive season off the bench last season for the Zags. Averaging 6.9 points per game and 3.3 rebounds in almost 19 minutes per game. With a couple 15+ point performance in blowouts during WCC play.

Watson is a tweener who really doesn’t have a true position. For being 6’8 you would expect more outside shooting and athleticism but primarily made his money down on the block. Shooting over 63% from the field most of his points came right around the rim.

This is why I would feel more comfortable playing him at the 4 and not the three. Without being a real threat on the outside and Gonzaga really thriving on spreading you out, he isn’t going to provide much attention-catching the ball 25 feet from the basket.

Watson is due for a breakout season in Spokane. At least this is what we are accustomed to with four-year guys under Mark Few. Unfourntley it is probably going to have to wait until next season with all the returning talent and highly touted recruits coming in. Although Watson can still give the Zags quality minutes and be a key contributor next season.
