Gonzaga Basketball: Projecting starting lineup for Bulldogs in 2021-22
Center: Drew Timme
Should start off by saying Timme has not fully committed to returning for his Junior season in Spokane. Although his name has shown up on NBA mocks drafts speculation is he will be back on campus next season. Truth be told his draft stock took a major hit after the title game. Timme showed his vulnerability defending when he gets switched onto guards on the perimeter.
Timme had a stellar season averaging 19 points per game along with seven rebounds. He was on a fast track to Most Outstanding Player of the tournament before the loss to Baylor. He scored over 22 points in four of their first five tournament games.
Timme is an old school big with a new school twist. He plays primarily on the block with great back-to-the-basket post moves. Can also stretch the floor with his three-point shooting and has excellent vision to cutters and open shooters out on the wing. Improving his outside defense is really the only other thing he needs to polish to take his game to another level.
If Timme returns he should be the favorite to win player of the year next season. The addition of Holmgren will benefit Timme by having more space to operate down low. Coach Few will have plenty of riches in his wallet next season. With small-ball being the future of hoops, we will see if Coach few Zigs why everyone else Zags.
