NCAA Basketball: A look at the 5 teams most involved with five-star Mark Mitchell
Oklahoma State Cowboys
It shouldn’t be too surprising that the Cowboys are benefitting from the success of Cade Cunningham’s lone season with the team. Not only did they exceed expectations by being a top-16 overall seed, the head coach Mike Boynton was praised for how he handled everything, including dealing with a potential postseason ban from the NCAA.
Oklahoma State still has some talent leftover for the future, including rising junior guard Avery Anderson and former five-star recruit and Kansas transfer Bryce Thompson. The Cowboys are looking to add even more talent in the coming months and could sell Mitchell on a future Big 12 powerhouse, while being a focal point of the offense, instead of potentially playing a backseat role at a place like Duke or Kentucky,
UCLA Bruins
Five-stars are starting to come back to the Bruins, with wing Peyton Watson arriving for next season, along with class of 2022 guard Amari Bailey and Dylan Andrews. If we assume that Watson is “one and done” and Johnny Juzang is in the NBA Draft, there will be room available for Mitchell to start at the small forward spot.
He’d be playing for a head coach in Mick Cronin that’s very demanding on the defensive end but Mitchell has the capability to be good there. And with his potential to average 15+ ppg similar to how Juzang did this past season, UCLA with him could very well end up back in the Final Four sooner than later.
