Alabama Crimson Tide

Dating back to his days at Buffalo, head coach Nate Oats has been great as a developer of perimeter talent, especially at point guard. Former Alabama star Kira Lewis was a lottery pick for the NBA and Jahvon Quinerly went from a bust at Villanova to the team’s secong leading scorer and passer from this past season. The offensive system is very friendly for point guards and certainly for Johnson if he chooses them too.

With incoming five-star point guard JD Davison arriving for next season, Johnson would probably have to know what his plans are before being able to pick the Tide. But in terms of current program outlook, only Kentucky can say they’re in better shape than Alabama; and they’re coming off a nine-win season.

Kentucky Wildcats

Even after the disasterous past campaign, the Wildcats and John Calipari still holds tremendous cache among NCAA Basketball players and prospects. Even after losing Nolan Hickman and having no point guards on the roster a week ago, Kentucky landed five-star point guard TyTy Washington and Georgia transfer and SEC assist leader Sahvir Wheeler for the upcoming season.

With five-star combo guard Skyy Clark already committed to the 2022 class, Johnson could potentially be entering a crowded backcourt if either Washington or Wheeler returns. The No. 1 freshman point guard is going to start no matter what but the minutes may be a bit limited for Johnson.
