NCAA Basketball: Ranking teams in play for 2022 guard Jalen Hood-Schifino
2. Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks were in scramble mode to find a point guard for next season and after missing out on a pair of top-30 targets, seemingly landed Arizona State transfer Remy Martin out of nowhere. They also got Jalen Coleman-Lands to add even more talent in the backcourt but both of them will only be around for another season. Hood-Schifino would have a big role on a winning program if he picks Kansas but would have to be aware that they’re also targeting five-star prospects in the 2022 class.
Assuming there won’t be future postseason sanctions, the Jayhawks would be the ideal scenario for any player. But when you consider the struggles that former five-star combo guard prospects Bryce Thompson and Quentin Grimes had before transferring out, it’s not a guarantee players succeed at Kansas, particularly those that aren’t pure point guards.
1. Tennessee Volunteers
The Vols reportedly have gotten into the process late but better late than never. With a player in Hood-Schifino that seems willing to listen to all offers, Tennessee may have the best case to make. They’re a preseason ranked team that is starting a projected “one and done” freshman point guard in Kennedy Chandler, along with Auburn transfer Justin Powell.
With Victor Bailey entering his senior season and Chandler does go pro next offseason, Hood-Schifino would be able to come in and start for a likely preseason top-25 squad again. The Vols are on the rise under head coach Rick Barnes and compared to the other options pretty much checks off each box.
Playing time, a trusted coach, and the ability to win, Tennessee is in solid shape to land any five-star caliber recruit they want in the 2022 class. Why not Hood-Schifino be part of it?
