NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking 11 contenders for top-20 Sadraque Nganga
4. Oklahoma Sooners
Continuing the focus on development, few head coaches on the list have had as much success as Porter Moser, who took 2-3 star recruits at Loyola-Chicago and made multiple Sweet 16 appearances and a Final Four in 2018. Now at Oklahoma, he’s looking to do the same thing, this time with top-50 or better talent.
It would also help Nganga that the Sooners will have plenty of frontcourt space open for him, with just JUCO transfer Akol Mawien projected to be on the 2022-23 roster. He’d be able to play in the Big 12, work with a talented head coach that’ll make him into a quality NBA prospect and if surrounded by other good talents, could be a focal piece on a really good team that can go somewhere.
3. Arizona Wildcats
New head coach Tommy Lloyd may not have any history as the top guy but he did great work as an assistant at Gonzaga, including developing raw international prospects such as Joel Ayayi, Rui Hachimura, and Domantas Sabonis. His history with overseas talent evaluation has played a big part in the Bulldogs’ rise and now with the Wildcats will be working with Ąžuolas Tubelis and Bennedict Mathurin, two guys likely to be around for one more year.
With four-star big man Dylan Anderson already committed, Nganga could slide in with him and create a dynamic frontcourt duo in the Pac-12. And he also can stay close to home in the state of Arizona instead of going 1000s of miles away. My only concern is how good Coach Lloyd will be as the No. 1 guy but I’m not worried about his ability to develop Nganga.
