NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking 11 contenders for top-20 Sadraque Nganga
2. UCLA Bruins
The program is in fantastic shape after making the Final Four, including a five-star freshman joining the team in Peyton Watson and currently, a top-5 overall guard prospect in the 2022 class in Amari Bailey. The roster has plenty of depth at both guard and wing but not much in the frontcourt after next year when both Myles Johnson and Cody Riley depart.
Up there with Gonzaga, UCLA is a top dog out west right now so if Nganga wants to stay in that region and wants to play for a winning team, this would be a great option. And head coach Mick Cronin has developed plenty of players over time at Cincy and just turned Johnny Juzang from a near bust at Kentucky to a star this past season. That could end up being Nganga’s fate too.
1. Kentucky Wildcats
Even though Juzang didn’t work out, that doesn’t take away the many players head coach John Calipari has developed and sent to the NBA. He’s worked with all kinds of talent, including those that were ready-made for the pros and some such as Nganga that may need a little more time.
The frontcourt next season focuses mainly on West Virginia transfer Oscar Tshiebwe, along with top-20 power forward Daimion Collins and junior Keion Brooks. We know they’ll be looking for a couple of forwards to pair with top-10 commit Skyy Clark in the 2022 class and with a good amount of playing time available and a great history of development, the Wildcats should be a main threat for everyone involved in this recruitment.
