2021 NBA Draft: 20 most interesting college prospects at draft combine
JT Thor, Auburn
Thor has given up his collegiate eligibility after just one season at Auburn where he averaged 9.5 points and 5.0 caroms in 23 minutes of action. The 6-10, 205-pound athletic forward’s defense is far ahead of his offensive game, which he is continuing to develop, although Thor can do about everything on the court.
His post-game, physicality –as he needs to bulk up — and 3-point shooting will be what teams are most interested in from the former 5-star recruit. Thor, who could use one more year of seasoning, is projected to be a late first-round to early second-round selection.
Jericho Sims, Texas
The 6-10, 245-pound center is coming off a semi-disappointing 2020-21 campaign although he did have a strong postseason (Big 12 Tournament and NCAA Tournament) as he recorded three double-doubles, to give him five for the season, and registered nine blocks. Sims, who could still return to Texas, has an excellent body and very athletic.
He is a solid rim protector and excellent rebounder who sets solid screens. It is his work on the offensive end that will take center stage this weekend as it is still a work in progress. Sims needs to improve his free throw shooting and is a possible late second-round draft pick.
Day’Ron Sharpe, North Carolina
The 6-11 highly touted recruit ended his collegiate campaign after one season, producing 9.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game for the Tar Heels. Sharpe, who is very nimble and athletic, will look to solidify a first-round draft selection with his work at the NBA draft combine.
While he is not the most herald of the prospects, the 19-year-old was very consistent throughout the season and he thrived on the glass, finishing ninth in the nation with 97 offensive boards. Sharpe is also an outstanding interior scorer who sets great screens and has the ability to put the ball on the floor. His outside shooting, passing, and his ability to make plays in pick-n-roll situations as well as his defensive prowess will be on full display at the combine.
