NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Minnesota transfer Marcus Carr
USC Trojans
The Trojans have landed a guard transfer this offseason in Boogie Ellis, who averaged 10.2 ppg and was 6th Man of the Year at Memphis. He and Ethan Anderson is currently the projected starting backcourt for USC next season, which is a bit underwhelming on paper. And even if starting forward Isaiah Mobley comes back, his brother Evan Mobley isn’t, and this team doesn’t have a go-to scorer to rely upon at the moment.
Carr would change that and would certainly be a scoring upgrade over Anderson as the starting point guard. And with the brand new Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) coming into play, being the star scorer in Los Angeles can give this transfer plenty of opportunities off the court in case he still isn’t a guaranteed NBA-level player. He can have the keys to USC’s offense and if things go well can make a name for himself in the big city.
West Virginia Mountaineers
This option may not make any sense but with Miles McBride all but gone from West Virginia, the team could use a point guard that can replace his production on offense. Where things get interesting here is how Carr and head coach Bob Huggins would work together. Defense is a major weakness in Carr’s game and if he bought in to “Press Virginia” for one season, he could see his draft stock take a major leap.
Carr would still be able to do what he wants offensively but he does need to be in more control. The Mountaineers coaching staff can help make some adjustments in key areas and refine his game and the team would be top-20 good next season. It may be a pipe’s dream but many didn’t expect Marcus Carr to even remain in college at this point. So why not continue the surprises by going to Morgantown?
