NCAA Basketball: Analyzing top-75 guard Collin Chandler final 6 teams
Stanford Cardinal
The academic reputation of Stanford will be its biggest selling point, which has helped them land back-to-back five-star prospects in Ziaire Williams and incoming freshman wing Harrison Ingram. What’s interesting about this option is that they have just two upperclassmen on the roster and eight of the 12 players will be underclassmen. So when Chandler potentially returns in 2024, he’ll have to wait his turn behind what’ll be a veteran-heavy roster.
There’s also the possibility that head coach Jerod Haase, who has yet to make the NCAA Tournament in five years with the program. If he can’t get it done with Ingram around, Chandler may have to pick a new option because Coach Haase may not be around when he gets back.
Utah Utes
As the other local option, the Utes could have an advantage over BYU if Chandler wants to play for a power conference team. Gonzaga also plays in the WCC but they’ve ended up in a league of his own. They’re rebuilding under former Utah State head coach Craig Smith, who has brought in a number of transfers this season.
Quite frankly, Chandler could come in this or next season and have a spot in the rotation and that’ll likely be the case three years from now too. This is currently the team farthest away from the NCAA Tournament, different from their rivals in Provo. But if playing close to home and in a better conference is more important, Utah may have a real shot to get a program-changing recruit.
