Clevon Brown – Florida International

Milestone: 150 career blocks

Clevon Brown is currently sitting at 130 career blocks over five seasons and 124 games. After averaging 19 minutes in 2020-21, being red-shirted after nine games as a senior due to a knee injury, Brown has decided to transfer to Florida International. Brown was averaging 29 minutes per game at the time of his injury, when he returned for the 2020-21 season he ended up averaging 19 minutes and started eleven of nineteen contests. With the falling minutes the 6’8 forward still averaged almost a block per game.

Dating from the 1985-86 season, Brown sits at No. 76 in SEC career blocks. With his transfer to Florida International Brown will not be able to pass Tayshaun Prince and Nick Richards on his way to 150. He will, however,  have the opportunity to play in the frontcourt with Quinnipiac transfer 7’1 Seth Pinkney.

Pinkney blocked over two shots per game last season and the combination of Pinkney and Brown brings a whole new dimension to the Panters’ interior defense that will be developing this season. The addition of another shot blocker may in fact give Brown additional opportunities to roam the key as well as have an opportunity to block shots as the ball will go through the offensive player the 6’8 Brown is guarding as opposed to the 7’1 Pinkney.

After a couple of years of things working against him, things seem to be in his favor to be able to block 20 shots this season, which is just two more than he blocked in nine games prior to a knee injury that earned him a redshirt.
