NCAA Basketball: 12 potential milestones to watch for 2021-22 season
Trent Frazier – Illinois
Milestone: 1,800 career points
Illinois’ starting backcourt player currently sits at 1,434 career points. After 127 games over four seasons, Frazier will be returning for a fifth. The more obvious milestone would be the 1,500 mark, but since he is just sixty-six points away, there will be no need to keep an eye on that journey for an extended period of time. Being a career double-digit scorer Frazier will be reaching 1,500 points at some point during the Hall of Fame Classic in late November versus Cinncinati or Arkansas.
The 1,800 career points milestone will be much more interesting to watch, due to the fact it all depends on which Trent Frazier presents himself for the 2021-22 season. The 6’2 shooting forward totaled 439 points as a sophomore while logging 975 playing minutes. Last season, the Fighting Illini played 31 games and Frazier got in for 1,044 minutes, yet scored 315 points.
If Frazier is going to score 366 points this season in order to pass Jim Jackson and Jalen Rose on the Big Ten all-time scoring list it will be a by-product of the departure of Ayo Dosunmu (20.1 ppg). As a senior and returning starter, look for Frazier to be more of an option in the backcourt with point guard Andre Curbelo. Without Dosunmu to attempt over 15 field goals a game, look for a lot of in-and-out play with center Kofi Cockburn and more than eight shots a game for Frazier.
