NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 10 teams in running for Chandler Jackson
Kansas Jayhawks
Already with a top-tier 2022 recruiting class, Kansas has locked up top-50 prospects, Zuby Ejiofor and Gradey Dick, as well as five-star wing Marquise Rice. They can still look to add a point guard, something they were struggling to do all offseason until they landed 5th-year grad transfer Remy Martin.
With him gone, they’ll have Drake transfer and combo guard Joseph Yesufu, Bobby Pettiford, and four-star freshman guard Kyle Cuffe, Jr. It’s a solid group but Kansas will want to add another long-term prospect and Jackson fits their mold, as he could end up being like Marcus Garrett with an even better offense as the highest comparable ceiling. With playing time being available, the Jayhawks have a legit offer to make for this recruit.
Memphis Tigers
As the hometown option, the Tigers are obviously going to stand out here. And while he won’t likely get to play with them, Jackson is going to watch Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren be on national television for next season. And while they’ll be gone, this prospect has a chance to come in and get a lot of playing time, as Memphis doesn’t have a true point guard on the roster.
The fact that Miami transfer Earl Timberlake and Bates are viewed as the likely ball-handlers shows you the state of the backcourt, as Alex Lomaz’s offensive issues can potentially hold them back. Even though the team has three-star guard commits in Amarr Knox and Zocko Littleton, Jackson could find himself getting big minutes early on for his hometown team.
