NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 10 teams in running for Chandler Jackson
South Carolina State Bulldogs
The MEAC and overall HBCU movement benefitted a year ago with landing five-star center Makur Maker. It ultimately didn’t work out but Jackson could, who would be one of the best players in the conference overall immediately. He can be the focal point of the offense and would benefit in a unique way via Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), playing for an HBCU team.
The issue, of course, is that Jackson would be playing in a league without many eyeballs and would have to win the conference tournament to have a postseason experience. And if he isn’t a star player and instead is “just another guy”, the benefits won’t be there in the end for Jackson.
Texas Longhorns
Texas’ backcourt features three senior guards in Marcus Carr, Courtney Ramey, and Andrew Jones. All three will be gone, leaving Kentucky transfer Devin Askew and class of 2022 commit Arterio Morris on the roster for next year. Jackson would fit in with them but the issue is who else head coach Chris Beard will get.
The Longhorns added six quality transfers last offseason and if things go well for the team, will go at it again next April and May. If Jackson commits in the Fall, he’ll have to be okay with more players coming in and risking not getting many minutes early on. It’s hard to evaluate this option in the Fall compared to in the offseason but the development skills of Coach Beard alone should keep them in the mix.
